Meet PSB’s most acclaimed compact, budget-friendly speaker.
For decades, the Alpha B1 has been trusted by audio experts as the reference model for monitor speakers, making it one of the most reviewed bookshelf speakers ever. Starting from scratch at Canada’s national acoustic labs, the Alpha B1 is a true two-way design that uses a 5¼” (133mm) woofer made of metalized polypropylene, paired with a ¾” (19mm) aluminium dome tweeter to deliver crisp full-range sound with accurate and detailed bass. It uses the Alpha Series’ patented bass reflex design that utilizes the rear-firing port tube to improve efficiency and bring the bass response down below 60Hz.
- ¾” (19mm) Ferrofluid cooled aluminium dome tweeter with front waveguide
- 5¼” (133mm) Textured polypropylene mid/bass woofer with rubber surround
- Bass reflex cabinet design with a rear-firing port
Enhanced tweeter for better dispersion
The Alpha B1 is equipped with a ¾” (19mm) aluminium dome tweeter that utilizes ferrofluid cooling to enhance high frequencies and deliver a layer of accurate sound with crisp detail. Coupled with a neodymium magnet for high sensitivity, a ferrofluid cooled tweeter also prevents dynamic compression and limits distortion when the volume starts to climb. The tweeter’s front waveguide is uniquely placed to smooth the response at the crossover for improved on and off-axis performance.
Cleanest, most natural bass possible
The B1’s all-new custom 5¼” (133mm) woofer is constructed from an injection-moulded polypropylene cone and has been redesigned to reduce breakup modes and lower distortion at full excursion. Hand-assembled and finished with an attractive metalized look, the innovative midbass woofer is supported with a dual-layer voice coil to deliver excellent midrange detail and distinct bass. The B1 is also a bass reflex design that utilizes the rear-firing port tube to control low frequencies with pinpoint accuracy.
Purpose-engineered for the ultimate system
Designed and engineered in Canada, PSB built the B1 with high-quality MDF to strengthen the cabinet and minimize unwanted vibrations that can compromise sound quality. Its plastic moulded front and rear baffles are internally ribbed and connected together to add rigidity to the speaker’s solid enclosure. Plus, the cabinet’s subtle curvature and high-quality woodgrain vinyl finish the speaker with class and elegance, while their compact size makes it easy to tuck the speakers into any room.
