APHEX 230 Broadcast Talent Voice Processor

Make your voice larger than life!

Aphex ’s new Model 230 is the most comprehensive voice processing channel ever created. Combining several of our world-renowned proprietary technologies in preamplification, dynamics processing, psychoacoustics and
more, the Model 230 is the ultimate processing tool for on-air broadcast talent, voiceover artists and anyone desiring a larg e r-than-life sound from their voice.

Aphex’ Model 230 is a high-quality, analog, single-channel preamplifier and voice processor. Its comprehensive features include RPA™ tube pre amplification,
Easyrider™ c o m p ression, Logic Assisted™ gating, de-essing, parametric EQ, and Aphex’ Aural Exciter® and Big Bottom® psychacoustic effects, all in a single space, rackmountable package. With this spectacular collection of Aphex processing tools, users of the Model 230 are able to work more easily and naturally, achieving a vocal quality that’s more present, open and cont rolled.

Setting up and using the Model 230 is simple. It offers an intuitive set of contrlls, allowing the most logical parameters of each component to be easily adjusted to meet the needs of any voice or vocal style. For interfacing in nearly any environment, the Model 230 implements a 3-pin balanced analog input and output, a 1/4" TRS –10dBV output, and AES3, S/PDIF and Optical digital outputs.
The Model 230 offers simple, easily accessible controls to quickly meet your requirements, including a -20dB pad, switchable 48V phantom power, and phase and polarity inversion. Compression is handled with Aphex’ Easyrider™ auto-compression circuit, with an adjustable release control. Easyrider offers high quality dynamics processing, without pumping or breathing even at deep compression levels. The logic-assisted gate allows for adjustment of threshold and depth, providing positive triggering with no cut-off parts of words. The Model 230’s split-band de-esser with threshold control controls sibilance without dulling adjoining high frequencies.

The Model 230’s parametric EQ is optimized around human voice frequencies (240Hz – 4500Hz), and allows for attenuation or boosting of the frequency range ±12dB. A bandwidth control allows for a Q from .5 to 5 octaves. If
there’s a problem vocal frequency, from boominess to nasally qualities, it’s easy to quickly isolate and eliminate it. Aphex’ patented Aural Exciter® and Big Bottom®, longtime favorites for voice processing, are included in the Model 230, each offering individual tune and mix controls. While the Aural Exciter provides its trademark ability to increase intelligibility, presence and detail, the Big Bottom provides more body and fullness to a voice without increasing peaks.

In addition to its analog and digital interfaces, the Model 230 also offers a post-compressor send and re t u rn. The digital outputs provide up to 96kHz sampling rates. A word clock input and output allow the Model 230 to be digitally locked with other equipment. For on-air applications, the Model 230 also includes an input that responds to a cough switch.
Whether you’re doing broadcasting, ADR, music re c o rding, live sound reinforcement or any other application that re q u i res vocal excellence, the Aphex Model 230 is the most powerful and superb-sounding processor available today.
